About

This contents of this website are for the research project on the redevelopment and governance of public space at Barangaroo, NSW. Over the past 2 decades, the redevelopment of Barangaroo has been a highly contentious topic in Sydney as multiple levels of government and a variety of private interests created a vision of a new landmark development in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Throughout this time, one of the critiques of Barangaroo’s development has been the reduction, reallocation, and transformation of the public space in the development. Furthermore, there have also been various disputes over what have often been referred to as draconian public place management regulations set out by the state government.

This research study aims to investigate the in-situ use, management and allocation of public space in Barangaroo. The study will be completed through a holistic array of methods, including document analysis, an ethnographic study of public space, and semi-structured interviews.
